Modelling groundwater flow in the Plaine du Nord–Massacre shallow aquifer, Haiti

چکیده
Abstract To assist in the sustainable management of water resources, a groundwater model shallow Plaine du Nord–Massacre transboundary aquifer system was developed. The Aquifer is one largest systems Haiti, supposedly bearing high potential for supply and irrigation. shallower part already tapped by hundreds domestic wells hand-pumped public private boreholes. In framework AVANSE project (Appui à la Valorisation Potentiel Agricole Nord, pour Sécurité Économique et Environnementale), USAID funded aiming at developing agriculture region, built to decision making. finite-difference-based MARTHE software used model. Due lack monitoring data, calibration could only be carried out under steady-state hydraulic conditions. It should thus considered as first step towards better characterisation aquifer’s potential. However, computed balance scale showing that significant resources can easily mobilized if carefully manages rule local operational difficulties. simulated drawdowns using transient simulation irrigation scenarios are pluri-metric, reaching 6–7 m. New must deeper than current average depth support agricultural development projects.

A GIS based DRASTIC model for assessing groundwater vulnerability in shallow aquifer in Aligarh, India
Surface water quality can be determined by hydrological responses that vary geographically. The sub-surface hydrologic environment, however, has a primary influence on groundwater movement and hence pollutant migration to the subsurface water. Maps of aquifer vulnerability to pollution are becoming more in demand because on the one hand groundwater represents the main source of drinking water, ...
متن کاملInvestigating future changes in groundwater quantity and quality in the Khash alluvial aquifer through numerical groundwater flow and solute transport modeling
The Khash alluvial aquifer, in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, supplies the water needed for agriculture, drinking, and industry in the Khash area. In order to predict the future status of groundwater level and water quality, and to find aquifer management solutions, groundwater flow and solute transport models were developed using MODFLOW and MT3DMS. GMS 10.3 was used to develop the model. Ca...
متن کاملApplication of multiple-point geostatistics on modelling groundwater flow and transport in a cross-bedded aquifer (Belgium)
Sedimentological processes often result in complex three-dimensional subsurface heterogeneity of hydrogeological parameter values. Variogram-based stochastic approaches are often not able to describe heterogeneity in such complex geological environments. This work shows how multiple-point geostatistics can be applied in a realistic hydrogeological application to determine the impact of complex ...
